Introduction to the Program:

Global knowledge foundation is association with Ministry of Railways conference on Big Data & Analytics in Railways 5th July 2018 | Le Meredien | New Delhi

It is a world of DATA EXPLOSION

In the modern world, BIG DATA and ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE are universally accepted as the next frontier of strategic advantage. Smarter Organizations are capturing trillions of bytes of information about their customers, suppliers, and operations; and turning it into gold. Networked systems, digital
sensors and IOT devices embedded at millions of places in the physical world allow organizations to interact with their customers, employees, suppliers, hard and soft assets in fine granularity.

This is a moment of huge opportunity for Indian Railways, one of the largest railway systems in the world with more than 110,000 kms of track, 7100 railway stations, carrying 8.5 billion passengers and moving 1100 million MT of goods annually, using 22,000 passenger trains and 8000 goods trains daily. However, it is challenged with some fundamental business questions

  • How is Indian Railways using this data to build the railways of future?
  • How much of the data is being used for smarter maintenance of railway assets?
  • How could railways use the data to improve its offering to its customers?

DATA is the OIL of 21st Century But, are we really USING it yet?

Indian Railways has been a pioneer in use of information technology by bringing PRS, FOIS and several other systems in public use. The amount of data generated is huge, cutting across:

  • Passenger information linked with PAN, Aadhaar, Banking, mobile etc.
  • Freight information coming from several manufacturing units spread across India
  • Supplier and Contractor Information
  • Human Resource Information System
  • Asset Health information for maintenance, asset management and public safety

The overwhelming statistics of Railways suggest the millions of the data that this thriving system throws up every day. Time has come that Railways use this for actionable insights. Advances in Big Data, Analytics, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence and other technologies has now made it possible to capture data streams and analysis to drive solutions to effectively manage operations and, possibly, offer new service

About the Conference

Big Data are large pools of data that can be captured, communicated, aggregated, stored, and analyzed — is now part of every sector and function of the global economy. Like other essential factors of production such as hard assets and human capital, it is increasingly the case that much of modern economic activity, innovation, and growth simply couldn’t take place without

We believe, there are several ways in which BIG DATA can be used to create value for Indian Railways. Our research at Global Knowledge Foundation, suggests that investments in various digital technologies by Government of India, Indian Railways and private sector, now provides an ideal platform to unleash a wave of innovation, productivity, and growth — all driven by big data.

Therefore, this conference on BIG DATA AND ANALYTICS IN RAILWAYS brings together Railway Policy Makers, Users, Data Scientists and Expert Consultants, Business Data Analysts, Technology Developers and Suppliers on a common platform to discuss the BIG DATA opportunity, challenges and way forward for INDIAN RAILWAYS.
